What I really do.

Image
Previously, I allocated a lot of time listening to TED talk in the Youtube. Yet upon registering in IPDA, I have stopped listening to it since Youtube is blocked by the organisation. Cool enough kan? Thus, instead of cursing the organisation for not giving me access to Youtube, I now choose to spend some of my time reading The Economist (I say some of my time because I rarely read now! shit) . Recently I read Voucher Vitriol by J.F. (posted on August 9, 2012). The issue explored isn't a new one as many of us are aware on how the education in US looks like. Yet, the thing that intrigues me the most is the readers comments! I always imagine myself posting cool comments on the site. Oh, what a dream! Some of the comments which I like the most are: These two emphasise the role of teachers, parents and society in children's education. So guys, it is worth spending some time reading the readers comments. Through the comments, you can note that differe...

On The Underachieving School Again

Each of us should have favourite books written by different favourite authors. I also have some. Currently, I revisit a book by John Holt which is The Underachieving School. It is indeed true that every time in which we revisit books we will find something new. It may not be something new, but maybe that every time when we read it, we interpret it quite differently (our brain grows and changes everyday). Nevertheless, we might find something which we may have overlooked the first time we read! Favourite quote for the time being: One of the things that are so wrong with school is that most of the words children hear there carry no nonverbal meaning whatever, and so add nothing to their real understanding. Instead they only confuse them, or worse yet, encourage them to feel that if they can talk glibly about something, it means that they understand it .(p. 18)   You know who your enemy is. But most of the harm that is done to children in schools they can't and don't...

Saya ada cadangan

Flipping through a local newspaper, there are abundance of wonderful suggestions on maximising our nation's potential. The below caught my eye the most: We Must Educate Young To Acquire Higher Order of Thinking Skills. It is indeed true, yet in Malaysia now, we have enough people who are good at throwing random brilliant suggestions. I truly believe that it is now the time in which we should produce more and appreciate people who can come out with this: How Can We Educate Young to Acquire Higher Order of Thinking Skills; instead of the above. Harap Maklum.

Finding your purpose and love it.

Dialog Nasional Pendidikan Negara

Image
Today, I attended the Dialog Nasional Pendidikan Negara. It was neither a talk nor a conference instead, it is a dialogue. A rakyat dialogue. A dialogue in which the voice of rakyat were heard and being considered. During the dialogue, I'd came across a number of impressive suggestions for education such as alternative education and the idea to put more emphasis on building Malaysians' 'akhlak'. More, I dare myself to voice out my own opinion on Malaysian educational system. With that, I came out with 5 suggestions: To improve the teaching of Bahasa Malaysia (considering the result of my thesis); To improve the teaching of languages in Technic and Vocational schools; To revise and revamp English textbook (English textbook should be graded and created accordingly to a specific audience- eg: textbook for dyslexic, textbook for elementary level etc. ); For teacher professionalism, teachers should avoid sharing their Facebook page with their students; To provide ...

Thesis: Part 3 (a Token of Appreciation).

It has been a few weeks since I got the mark for my thesis. All I can say is ' Alhamdullilah '. I'd put a lot of hard work and was very determined to make it a success. There were times when I gave up because I thought that 'all that I am doing is rubbish'. When I felt like it, I really took ample time off, had lot of fun and played around. But after all, I had to work extremely hard to regain my will power to continue doing my thesis. Now that everything has ended, I feel a little bit relieved. This is the front cover of my thesis. Yeah, I have a damn long title for my thesis. I only thought of the suitable title for my thesis hours before submitting it and was really nervous to submit it. I was really 'cuak' that I'd even typed my student id wrongly. Haha. Thank God, the lady who worked in the office was really kind to gave me a solution to my silly mistake. More, I must say that the most interesting part of my thesis is my acknowled...
