Goooood

This is a very interesting and funny book! I cant stop but laughing and writing down all the funny (but true!) sentences from the book. Eg: Under the topic of the manipulation of language: There is a practice of blurring logical distinctions between assertions of different kinds […] In short, we are encouraged to regard what officialdom says out of political expediency as carrying more weight than the evidence of painstaking research, as of course in a political rather than an educational climate it does. [...] Orwell (1949) calls 'Duckspeak' - language which is quacked rather than spoken and consists of noise rather than meaning [...] - The book cites Orwell when the author describes the activities of Ofsted inspectors and the 1988 Education Act.  The use of the terminology of such theories, however, serves to conceal the fact that they have been so rubbished and that the concepts central to them have been emasculated. The use of emoti...

Pahit.

Pahit but there's some truth in what he says: [...] Well, I think we have to be realistic. When we start be picking on teachers we also have to be realistic. They are product of the system. And the system perpetuated the growth of individuals with relatively limited command of the language so there's no choice but to take people who come out of the system to put into teacher education and then make them teachers. So we already have that problem, emerging [...] (2:46-3:09) ps: The uploader name is wonderpet1990 ? Oh come on! Pleaselah find a better name.

Teach For Malaysia: Not interested with it!

First, it is worth mentioning that I am a fan of Teach for America and Teach for India because the programmes are quite nice. If you have some extra time, it is worth spending your time watching the videos of the programmes on the Youtube. I find the videos are very interesting because it portrays the reality of being a teacher. As a consequence to the fame of Teach for America, can't we Malaysians come out with our own programme without being a copy cat?, the government launches Teach for Malaysia. Okaylah, at first, I was quite positive about Teach for Malaysia because I have faith on the government. However, reality strikes me when I was talking about the programme with my friend whilst we were having our dinner. The conversation started with: My Friend (MF): Have you ever heard about Teach for Malaysia? Me: Yes. Why? MF: It is a stupid programme. Me: Gulp. Wahh. So bold. Why do say so? MF: How can a teacher with little teacher training bring about changes in ...

Yes: The teacher's 'make or break' rule

Teachers have been known to sabotage attempts at change; certainly it is clear that such attempts can succeed only when the teachers concerned are committed to them and, especially, when they understand, as well as accept, their underlying principles. The practice of education cannot be a mechanical, largely mindless activity: it requires constant decisions and judgements by the teacher and these he or she cannot make properly without fully appreciating and accepting the underlying rationale of any activity. Depression

Image
Recently, I went to the university library to borrow some books for my leisure reading. And then I picked up some books on depression because I believe that there are too many students who are suffering from depression attending schools every day. So, due to the fact that there is a high possibility for me to deal with the 'depressed' students, I think that it is a wise decision to understand their problem by doing some reading. So currently I'm reading this book:  As always, reading always makes me feel amazing because: I discover a lot of interesting facts; I find my new interests; and I understand human more. I'd found this poster on the net. It is quite interesting that the poster has a woman in it instead of a man. Though this is just a poster which aimed at spreading awareness of depression, based on my reading, I suggest the poster has a woman in it because: [...] experts in mental health and related fields point to evidence that dep...
