Why Children Can't Read

The book is an excellent book though I've taken weeks to finish reading it.

When children failed to learn to read, instead of blaming the system - the structure of the classroom, the inadequate training of teachers, the woefully ineffective methods of instruction, too much uninformed political interference- educators blamed the child. Soon everyone began to believe that reading is a property of the child. If a child can't read then it is his fault. And if the child shows normal persistence and willingness to learn (neither lazy) and normal intelligence (nor stupid), then the child must have a brain disorder called 'dyslexia', a label applied to children who are so confused by their poor reading instruction that they can't overcome it without special help.
