Note 1

You have to use English to your child. Speak English with them. Try.

This is the most common advice given by an English language teacher to parents. But however, this might be a not very helping advice. I've been into a class where my lecturer reveals everything *dramatic effect :)*

"It depends on the quality of the language you've heard rather than how much you've heard."

To simplify, parents with lower level of proficiency, do not have to push themselves too hard to speak English with their children. Parents' wrong pronunciations and word usages may affect the child's language. Thus, it is better to send them to English classes where they can get the better picture of English.

For parents or parent wannabes, it's absolutely fine if you are not proficient in the language. Research conducted has revealed that Asian parents ,especially, are impressed if their children can master the language even if they are uneducated. So relax. Dont push yourself too hard :)
